Half Price Direct To You
From: Steve Henry
Hello,
Thank you for your interest in the Viking Swag,
Swags and what people want them for have really changed a lot in the past 5 years so a couple of years back we took a big trip and looked at all the best swags in Australia and asked just about everyone we met what they really, really wanted in a swag and put all the best bits together into the design of the Viking Swag. It has been our best seller ever since.
Here is all the information on how you can get your new Viking Swag direct for $200 off retail price, plus specifications and every other question we could think of that you might want to know about swags in general, and why we believe this is the best value for money swag in Australia, as it has been designed to be a very tough, super light, compact swag you can put up quickly and easily in a variety of shapes to suit all different weather and situations.

Attention… Limited Time Offer… at the end of this letter there is also a special offer for you, but it is only until the stock is sold. If you are interested please call and let us know as the last time we had a special like this we sold out in 2 days...
Also, occasionally we get very cheap ex trade show demo model swags so if you want you can receive the short list email Swags Australia newsletter which also has local fishing secrets, good 4WD secrets plus bushcraft and SAS survival tips and up to 90% off on camping gear specials from around Australia.
We don't do spam or rent your name to anyone else, and you can cancel anytime you want.
If you are interested just fill in the Swags Australia boxes on the top left side of your screen and click YES and we will do the rest.
Here is the first question most people ask us…
Who are you, why don’t you have a shop, and why are the swags so cheap?
We are a family business and have been making high quality handmade Australian swags now for over 27 years, supplying just about every area in Australia and New Zealand.
We are located in Brisbane, Queensland and 4 years ago decided to supply direct to the public in an effort to fight ridiculous rising insurance, transport, and retail costs.
We believe that owning your own swag should be affordable as it gives you one of the simplest and best ways of experiencing this wonderful country without all the bulk and bother of tents.
The reason you can now get your Viking Swag for below half the retail price is because we don’t have to pay any of the huge costs involved in running a retail store. Staff wages, holiday pay, electricity, rent, special insurances, advertising, phone bills… they all add up and the costs are normally passed on to you.
We supply direct to you at below half the retail price, and to make it even easier and completely safe, send your swag by registered courier and offer you a full money back guarantee if you are not completely happy, as well as our industry leading 10 year warranty, covering you against any faults.

Why is the Viking Swag so popular?
There are some very good swags available in Australia … and there are some absolute shockers. The trouble with the good swags is that they usually cost upwards of $500 (we know, the Viking Swag, King Single Size used to retail for up to $600 before we started supplying direct).
Here is an article from EzineArticle.com that answers a lot of common questions about choosing your swag...
Here are the 7 things you should avoid, as well as the things that will make life easier for you, when choosing your new swag… 1. Avoid like the plague any canvas that isn’t Australian made as it is usually imported because it is cheap. Anyone can call any fabric canvas just by dipping it in some waterproofing chemical but it takes a lot of work to make a canvas that lasts. 2. Avoid swags where the foot end is sewn shut as swags can get very hot inside without ventilation and on a wet night you want to be able to get the foot of the swag up off your feet and gear because no matter what some people might tell you, canvas isn’t waterproof – it gets wet and swells in the rain. This is why swags are different to nylon tents which are completely waterproof but don’t breathe and so can be sweatboxes on hot nights. 3. Avoid swags that have a canvas base as water will come up through the base from wet ground. Usually you will find this type of swag has a plastic sheet built in to the bottom of the mattress. Again, canvas is not waterproof and there is nothing worse than sleeping on a wet mattress. 4. Avoid swags that have a complicated set up or can’t be set up without poles. Many times on your journeys poles will be lost or broken and then that type of swag is useless. 5. Avoid swags that are big and bulky, often you will need to share luggage space with other people so you don’t want to not be able to fit your swag in because it is too big. 6. Ask yourself do you want a swag that is light, tough, compact, and which can be put up and down easily even if you forget or run over the poles? Imagine it is pouring rain and you are tired and want to set up quickly, or it is a cold wet morning and you want to break camp and be on your way… 7. It is only when the weather turns foul or biting insects are around in their thousands that you suddenly realise why you want the best swag and become glad you spent time in choosing the best swag rather than just a cheap knockoff. Whether it be camping, fishing or just some bush time away, you want the swag you choose to last you a long time, so it is best to get it right the first time. |
Here is what just some of the many people who are using Viking Swags have to say about Viking Swags...

Here is an another article, this one from ArticleArmies.com, which many customers have found helpful...
Why is the Viking Swag both the best, and the best value, camping swag in Australia and New Zealand ? 1. Simply designed and easy to put up (and down) in all weather and all conditions, if you forget or break or don’t want poles, it is just as easy. 2. Extra long (2.70m) from end to end awning and wide (1.0m) means more room and comfort so your swag is never too hot or closed in, even on hot and humid nights. 3. Open ended style with generous 72cm height and built in pole eyelets. Can be erected in dome shape at one or both ends if flexible poles are used as double strength sleeves are built in Head and Foot. Can also be set up in ‘A’ style classic shape with or without poles. Your Viking Swag can be put up simply and effectively with just rope, or can be used indoors or out in flat bed style (See here for different shapes your Viking Swag can be set up as). 4. All Viking Swags are hand made from special industrial strength Australian canvas used in buildings, trucks, boats and caravans… very, very tough but light to carry, breathes well, and excellent protection against heat and rain. 5. All sewing is hand sewn flat seamed using high grade SEXT97 thread which swells when wet to keep out moisture, and is UV treated so won’t rot in the sun. 6. Built in woven new polymesh non-rip extra tough groundsheet stops all ground moisture in even the wettest weather. 7. Over 37 years Australian canvas sewing experience. 8. Mattress made from special density quality Australian foam with removable, washable cotton poplin cover. Can be rolled and stored away without cracking or splitting. Very comfortable. Longer than a Queen size bed at 1.88 metres. 9. Extra length rain awnings at both ends means you don’t have to worry about condensation as you have airflow. For those who don’t care about condensation and are camping in high wind areas we can build in head and foot wind flaps with Velcro fastening. 11. Number 10 wide tooth exterior all weather zipping with double tab sliders allows easy assembly, and gives you complete protection from snakes, spiders, insects. 12. All corners have ground peg all weather eyelets for staking on windy days and internal pockets for gear storage. 13. Adjustable super strong rollup straps and quick release buckles are sewn on so they can’t be lost. Straps are made extra long for when swag has sleeping bag and other stuff inside and can be tied together to make simple shoulder carry strap. |
How will my Viking Swag be delivered?
You can take advantage of direct ordering so that wherever you are in Australia you can simply ring direct and order your new Viking Swag and we will send it to you immediately using Australia Post’s new receipted delivery courier service (which is excellent as if you can’t be home for delivery you can collect it at your convenience from your local Post Office).
What type of canvas do you use?
Canvas making has changed a lot in the past 30 years and it is no longer true to say that the heavier the canvas, the better it is. In fact sometimes the extra weight is a hindrance.
20 years ago, heavy grade cotton canvas had to be used as, like any cotton fabric, it got soft and loose over the years. Then for a while polyester canvas was trialed but it did not swell sufficiently when it got wet.
The new canvas we use now is a special grade, best quality, Australian industrial strength 15oz canvas (the same as used in buildings, boats, and trucks) which is very, very tough but also easy to handle, lightweight to carry, and highly water resistant.
We also buy in bulk and pay for all stock up front which is so unusual that manufacturers give us huge discounts as there is no debt. We also buy entire runs of canvas and because we only make swags the cutting pattern is the same so there is no expensive wastage (in fact the Viking Swag has become so popular that it is the only swag we now make!)
Chose the Viking Swag to be his bed for the next 6 months! “The swags are great. The doco's going to be about all the different ways you can live in Australia and the journey of finding the right one for you. I can't wait to go thank you again mate” 22 November 2006 |
Why don’t you include poles?
A rough rule of thumb is that swags are for sleeping in while tents are for living in. Swags are meant to be quick and easy to put up in all weather or even if you just want to start fishing before the light goes. The last thing you want to be doing is stuffing around setting up camp. Equally on a cold wet morning you want to be on your way quickly without fuss. For these reasons we advise people to just use rope. You leave the rope permanently attached to the head and foot of your swag and upon arrival just tie the head off to a fence, tree, whatever is handy. If it looks like rain or is a hot night, tie the foot end off as well. About the only other thing you might want is 2 or 3 ground staking pegs.
Having said that if you prefer poles, particularly if you are going to be in one spot for a while or if you just prefer the greater room inside they afford you, your Viking Swag has all weather toughened eyelets for ‘A’ shape style AND special double strength sleeves built in at head and foot for flex poles for dome shape.
We can supply you with a 2 set of new, head and foot supa-pole twist lock, hard structural aluminium poles and rope sliders for pretty much what they cost us (they are made locally by Supa Peg at Yatala and are probably the best rigid pole on the market) or you can get standard flex or straight poles from any K Mart store quite cheaply.
Spend the extra money if you like but we did a big survey last year and found that most people never used the poles or forgot them and they told us to offer the swags at a lower price without poles so…
There are some swags that have mesh ‘sky windows’ or an internal mesh shell made from mossie netting.... Why don’t you do this?
Two reasons, the first being that sky mesh windows require stitching in the body of the swag and regardless of how good your thread is, it is still a weak spot in heavy rain. Your Viking Swag has no stitching in the body, which means you keep dry in even the wettest weather. And to those of you still considering mesh sky windows remember that bats and flying foxes often urinate overhead, not to mention bird poo …
The second reason is that full mesh internal shells invariably become soft over the years and end up getting tangled and torn on shoes or gear stored in the swag. Your Viking Swag is specially made so nothing can catch or tear with fine grade high strength nylon sandfly mesh at the head and foot opening to allow ventilation.
What size is best?
For most people we recommend the King Single and all the prices and dimensions here are for that. The mattress length is 1.88 metres and the swag width is 1 metre (mattress width is 75cm). Including awnings the swag length is 2.70 metres. Rolled up new the weight is approx. 5.9 kgs, diameter 45cms and width approx. 1 metre.
We also make the Viking Swag in Double size. The length is the same as the King Single but the width is 1200 mm (1.2MTRS), weight is approx. 7 .9 kgs. Double cost is King Single plus $100.
Can I make it longer?
Yes, Both your Double and King Single Viking Swags are available in plus 4” (plus 100mm) length. The extra length is in both mattress and canvas and the cost is plus $35 for the King Single and $45 for the Double. This covers the cost of the extra canvas and mattress.
Can I make it wider or custom size?
Yes, we can pretty much make your swag to suit you if you want a wider mattress or whatever you want.
What is the best swag for bike and motorbike travel?
The problem is of course space and most bike swags roll
up small but are little more than sleeping bags when they
are set up, which is ok on a fine night but if it is hot or raining
then you want a bit more space inside.
After a lot of testing we have found an ideal set up for bike swags combining the size and many benefits of the King single
Viking Swag with a great mattress.
Basically we take out the usual swag mattress we supply and replace
it with one of the new self inflating matresses specially made for us by
Oztrail (one of the largest and best manufacturers of Australian Quality
Camping Goods).
This mattress works by having an outer shell with locking valves
so when you roll up the mattress you compress all the air out and then lock off the valve when rolled, sealing it at a smaller size.
When you want to set up just unroll your swag and then unscrew the
mattress valve, it inflates itself as the air gets sucked in by the
expanding foam, very good design, no pumps, suction or blowing needed.
Very light, very compact, but with all the room and benefits of a full King Single size swag.
You simply will not find a better bike swag mattress combination than this.
Cost is plus $50 ( we take off the cost of the Gold medal mattress which we usually supply) mattress dimensions are 195cms x 70cms x 8cms.
Can I have a Self Inflating Mattress instead of the usual mattress with my swag?
Yes, please contact us about this excellent way to save space as we have just found a way to supply a high quality self inflating mattress at half retail price.
All of these pictures below are the same one Viking Swag that can be set up in a number of different ways. It can be dome or triangle shape, one end or both, or flat bed because of the unique loose cut construction The insect meshing works in all shapes as it is cut loose to make either a dome shape or a triangle shape but it is secured at all edges by either stitching or zipping so nothing can get in except you and whoever else you invite in. This is probably the most asked question so again, all of the shapes you see below can be made by your Viking Swag. Some of the pictured setups below use flex poles, some use straight poles, and some are with no poles just rope, but ALL of the shapes can be made by your one Viking Swag. The new Viking Swag is simply designed and easy to put up (and down) in all weather and all conditions and if you forget, or break, don’t want poles, it is just as easy

What is your guarantee and will you really refund if I don’t like it?
Simply… Yes.
The magazines, journals and newspapers we advertise in wouldn’t allow us to keep advertising if their customers complained. If you want you can read some of the attached customer testimonials to show you what people really think.
Of course all the manufacture of your Viking Swag is covered for 10 years but because we want to make it as safe for you as possible we guarantee that if it is not exactly what you want for any reason simply return it to us within 2 weeks and we will refund your money (the only thing not covered is the cost of delivery). As well, your Viking Swag is sent via Receipted Mail so it must be signed for by you, can’t get lost, and if you are not at home for delivery they will hold it for you at your local friendly post office.
Having said that we try to give you as much information as possible so that you are not wasting your time and if you have any further questions when you order we are more than happy to answer in detail.
We are a registered merchant with Commonwealth Bank Cardlink Australia and accept all major credit cards over the phone or you can simply do an internet funds transfer or send a cheque or money order, whatever is easiest and best for you.
Why do you have awnings at the head and foot instead of completely sealing up the swag?
The big reason is what no one tells you… canvas can get very hot to sleep in on hot nights and if you seal it up the condensation and heat are amazing. Your Viking Swag has awnings head and foot to stop rain as well as fine grade high strength sandfly meshing at head and foot so you can still get a flow of air through your swag. For those who don’t care about condensation and are camping in high wind and cold areas we can build in head and foot wind flaps which are sewn in at the base and attached in 3 positions around the top with Velcro fastening.
What about the mattress?
Once again, beware cheap mattresses. You can’t judge a mattress by its thickness as foam is basically bubbles of air which can be blown bigger or smaller. The real test is density, firmness, and durability. Your Viking Swag includes a high quality industrial grade mattress, good up to approx. 110kgs, from a respected local manufacturer with a removable washable cover, not some cheap fairy floss from overseas.
Limited time FREE upgrade to new Gold Medal Mattress…
As a special offer we are able to include for you a free upgrade to the new Gold Medal Mattress but as it is a special promotional offer we can only supply while stocks last. I tried one on a fishing trip recently and they are brilliant, very, very comfortable (normally cost an extra $42).
How much can I get one for?
Although we have been making swags for years we have just started out on the Internet and so wanted to offer you a pretty much irresistible offer (it might sound mercenary but we also know that for every Viking Swag that is bought we get another 4 or 5 orders over the next 6 months from people who have seen them and want them for themselves so we want to get as many out there as possible, even at this low price).
We talked long about this as we know the price is already crazy low and didn’t want to make it too gimmicky or sales pitch like. Remember these are the same quality if not better than swags you find in the shops for between $500 and $600 (we get a lot of people who tell us that they thought our swags must have been cheap as the price was so low but when they get them they are over the moon and tell all their friends!).
“Beseiged by Gree Tree ants, again my swag came out on top!” 07 September 2006, Ian Shipard, Rouse Hill, NSW 2155 |
So here is the offer we have put together until stock runs out. This price and all the bonuses are only available until stock runs out. We think we have plenty of stock but each year seems to get busier and busier as word of what we do spreads (we are already having to take on new help to keep up with sewing and stitching). Should your order be urgent let us know and we can work through the night or send your Viking Swag express freight.
Viking Swag King Single Size, (was retail $640)
SPECIAL LIMITED TIME OFFER $397 including Free Secure Receipted Delivery to anywhere in Australia. (Viking Double Swag is plus $100.)
And here are some bonuses we have put together to make this even better for you, again only while stocks last.
Bonus 1… Limited Time Limited Stock upgrade to new Gold Medal Mattress. I tried one on a camping trip recently and they are brilliant, very, very comfortable (normally cost an extra $42). They are good up to about 110kgs and excellent for bush work (INCLUDED FREE).
Bonus 2… Swag Storage and Protection Bag. This simple white polyweave mesh style bag is perfect for storing your swag and includes a name and address sticker so you can't lose or forget it. (INCLUDED FREE). ... UPDATE... Double Storage bags sold out, King Single storage bags still some in stock.
Bonus 3… We pay the GST included... Wouldn’t it be great if everyone did this! (INCLUDED FREE).
Bonus 4… Free upgrade to the new polyshield super strong dark green groundsheet base (value $27). This is the new floor base that has everyone in the camping industry excited. Designed for tent floors to support tables, eskys, walking in boots on it. Incredibly tough, we will be including it in all our swags this year at the new higher prices (INCLUDED FREE).

Will be emailed to you immediately upon order. Value $127 (INCLUDED FREE).
Bonus 6 … 3 x separate $20 discount vouchers (for use on 3 separate sleeping bags by you or your friends) off the very popular -5 degree, quick dry, Brand Name Australian Sleeping Bags (We have a deal with the manufacturer that we are only able to offer them at this price as long as we don’t advertise the name on the Internet, that is why we say Brand Name, rest assured they are very, very good and also come with money back guarantee) through us normally $67 plus delivery, NOW with $20 discount voucher only $47 plus delivery! (They are really very good. I bought one 2 years ago and still love it!) (INCLUDED FREE).
Bonus 7 … (value $243) We just wanted to remind you that these are not cheap canvas swags. The 15oz canvas used in your swag is rated in the top 3 sheets in Australia and the only reason more manufacturers don’t use it is because it is so expensive. We are able to offer it to you at this price because of a bulk canvas purchase we did last month. These swags retailed for over $600 four years ago and if anything the canvas is better now! This price will not last, we can’t make it any clearer than that (INCLUDED FREE).
Bonus 8 … The manufacture of your Viking Swag is covered for 10 years but because we want to make this as good for you and as easy as possible, we also guarantee that if it is not exactly what you want for any reason simply return it to us within 2 weeks and we will refund your money in full (the only thing not covered is the cost of the secure receipted delivery) (INCLUDED FREE).
Bonus 9 … Free Secure Freight Delivery to your door (value King Single Swag $39.95, Double Swag $49.95). That's right, while stock lasts we will pay all the freight costs to get your swag to you quickly and securely using Australia Post's Secure Receipted Delivery Courier Service (and if there is no one home when they call they will take it to the nearest Post Office for you) (INCLUDED FREE).

P.S. Canvas prices have gone a bit crazy recently and even though we think we have enough stock things move very quickly this time of year. These are the last of the bulk canvas buy we did last month and will go very quickly at this price so please let us know if you are thinking of ordering more than 12 as we will have to set aside new sewing space!
P.P.S. Remember also that the Free upgrade to the new Gold Medal mattress is only available while stocks last.
P.P.P.S. One more free bonus… We have just received an order of groundsheet/fly tarps that we have not been charged for as there is only 4 eyelets instead of 8 on each one (the eyelets are in the corners but not in the middles). They retail for about $15 but as we have received them free we are going to pass them on free until they run out. They are a very good little fly tarp, 1.83m x 2.0m , perfect for a spare groundsheet or camp fly tarp or trailer tarp. Sorry but it has to be first in best dressed as we only have a few. (They are that funny blue tarp colour) SORRY ALL GONE... JUST SOLD OUT OF TARPS, HOW QUICK WAS THAT!
That’s it, we update this site daily so when the canvas is gone we will have to change the price. Thanks for your support.

Here is what some others have to say about choosing Viking Swags...
“Thanks for the fishing swag...” “Thanks for the great Viking Swags. They are so versatile; sometimes we just throw them on the ground for the night, or in rainy weather we tie the ends to a tree and stay very dry. And after all this use, they are still in great condition!” Sunday 12 March 2006 |

“...monster Flathead on the plastic two pound handline and slept in his swag for 2 weeks straight from the day it arrived...” “Hi Stephen, Ben loves his swag! He slept in it for 2 weeks straight from the day it arrived. Here is his fishing story. “We were recently holidaying at a little place near Forster NSW, I fished all week off a small wharf that ran along the edge of the river where we were staying. The fish were a bit slow on the first few days, catching only a small handful of flathead and brim. But my luck changed when we bought a cheapy $2 hand reel from the nearby service station. I was just going to use it to try and catch some poddy mullet for bait but ended up catching myself a monster Flathead on the plastic two pound handline. 14 January 2007 |
“why we chose Viking Swags... ” "Having done extensive research into swags through the internet and having had a look at what our local stores had to offer I was convinced that you’re swags must be pretty good! I have attached a photo from December with my husband wearing the backpack we use for walking taken in the Blue Mountains. Thank you for your help,Regards,Celia" 10 September 2007 |

I like the idea of just rolling out a swag and lying in it and going to sleep but i also like protection from the biteys and rain as well, but being a lazy bastard I don't want to have to set up all the poles ropes and associated crap if I don't need to, also... the swag could just be used as a spare bed for when drunken mates can't co-ordinate themselves to call a cab. I live up in Charters Towers, will mainly use the swag in north western qld, I'm 190cm tall and about 125kg (supreme athelete)ha ha, Ps, Have a ripper Xmas and safe new year.”

Viking Swag Care and FAQ's... 1. General Set Up. Essentially your swag is a tube structure (can be set in a triangle or dome or neither, just as a flat bed, or you can have 1 end up and 1 end down). Head and Foot are identical so to assemble you fold the canvas over till it meets the groundsheet, then zip up the large side zip first, then after getting in to the swag you zip up the mesh screens head and foot. Most people nominate one end as the foot with a different colour rope then leave this permanently zipped and enter in and out through the head. A good idea is to then tie off approx. 5mtrs of rope to the middle eyelet head and foot so that you will always be able to tie your swag off to a tree or fence if you want to, if you want to be super organized perhaps you could take some ground pegs but these are just 1 extra thing to carry while the fish are biting. (Good Tip) If you are planning on using your swag on hard ground there is a thing you can buy from Target or Warehouse Stores called a Hiking Mat, about 6mm x 60mm x 1800mm should cost approx $7, they are excellent to put between your mattress and the built in groundsheet as they give you that bit of extra padding AND completely stop ground cold coming up into your back and hips as they are a closed cell foam construction. We have had plenty of good feedback from customers using these. Your Viking Swag has been designed to be simple and easy to put up (and down) The pole we most recommend however is the new lightweight twist lock rigid straight Again, we did a big survey last year and found that most people never used the poles or forgot them and wanted a swag they could use without poles. 3. Sleeping Bags
You DO NOT need to wet your canvas before use as it already been "prewet" but if you want to for extra settling then first take out the mattress and dry your canvas in the shade rather than direct sunlight. Your swag is made from industry grade strength materials but it still pays to take care to dry it properly any time it becomes wet so as to avoid mould. Also when you roll up your swag it is a good idea to brush off any dirt and leaves as you roll. When you return from any trip take out your mattress and air and dry your swag thoroughly before storing it. You DO NOT need to put on extra waterproofing on your canvas as this will affect your swag's ability to breathe and lead to condensation. (Good Tip) Never leave your swag unattended near an open fire or in the back of a ute as we hear many stories of swags lost both these ways, seriously. (Good Tip) If you are using your swag in particularly wet weather, it is a lot more pleasant, if you are going to be camped in 1 area for a while, to tie a tarp over head. This gives you a bit of breathing space when you get out of your swag and makes for a better camp. Cleaning your swag should be with water only, DO NOT use soap or chemicals and avoid harsh rubbing as the waterproofing CAN be rubbed off. Your mesh screens have a small weave pattern for consideration where the smallest insects are a problem and have excellent tear strength. 5. Repairs Repairs can be made to all parts of your swag in the event that they get torn or damaged. We carry a clear sticky product called Greenhouse Repair Tape, costs about $9 for a 25mtr roll (50mm wide or 100 mm wide) which we recommend be set on the inside and outside of the tear. Major repairs we can fix here at the workshop.

"The AAA Viking swag was the one that stood out from all the ones I had researched, though I had never actually seen one I had recieved a pamphlet on them, and from what I had seen in most camping shops the quality and pricing of swags was a little undesirable. 14 August 2004, "A few weeks ago I spoke of the AAA Viking swag and writing a review on it, never fear this is still in the process of happening. But what is happening with the swag you may be asking. Well I have returned it and had my money refunded. 20 September 2004,
